E-Commerce Concentration

 

Available to Web Design students in Advanced and Master's Certificate programs.

The E-Commerce Concentration gives Web design students a thorough understanding of marketing concepts and their applications in ecommerce and Web design. Students acquire the basic principles of marketing, study how to design and develop e-commerce sites from technical and visual design perspectives, build basic dynamic or database-driven Web sites, and develop emarketing strategies for a small business.

Requirements: Students entering this track must have a Web hosting account and basic proficiency in Dreamweaver and Photoshop or equivalent applications. 6011 Intro to Marketing
Lay a foundation for a career in business marketing design by studying marketing concepts and how they impact the design process. Students learn design principles and explore design case studies from the world of marketing communications design. Focus of the class is building a basic understanding how marketing ideas translate into an effective design. get more

5440 Ecommerce
Develop a basic understanding of the visual design, technical, and business skills required to get an e-commerce site up and running. Students explore the technical and structural parameters for designing an e-commerce site, learning time-tested approaches to usability and visual design. For students interested in developing their own Web business, the class also discusses essential aspects of any e-commerce venture: hosting, order processing, fulfillment, customer service, and outsourcing options. get more

5441 Databases and Dynamic Web Design
Learn skills for building a database-driven Web sites using MySQL or PHP. Students will learn the basics of MySQL and the PHP language, how relational databases are set up, and how they are commonly used on the Web. Projects will focus on using PHP to create Web-based pages and sites that can be dynamically generated and updated and also write to SQL databases. This course is geared to a Web designer with a basic proficiency in HTML looking to expand into ecommerce or develop dynamic or customizable site features. get more

5580 Internet Marketing
Learn how to develop emarketing strategies and campaigns for a small business Web site. Course topics include search engine optimization, HTML and conventional email campaigns, banner ads and affiliate marketing, measuring and promoting traffic, and onsite promotions.
